Berlin Forum

The Berlin Forum (officially called the Fossil Fuels Forum) provides a platform for dialogue between the European Commission and investors from the European energy sector, including corporations, industry associations, member state administrations and European civil society. The establishment of the Forum was initiated by the European Commission (DG TREN).

The Forum is an annual event. It was held for the first time in October 2005 in Berlin. The second and third meetings took place in October 2006 and October 2007, respectively. The event is hosted by the German Federal Ministry of Economy and Technology, while the European Commission (DG TREN, Unit 3) provides a secretariat for the meeting.

At the first plenary meeting held in October 2005, several working groups, namely “Coal”, “Gas” and “Oil”, were set up. In 2007, two new working groups, “Sustainable Fossil Fuels” and “Security of Supply”, were established.

The latest meeting of the “Sustainable Fossil Fuels” working group took place on 25 April 2008.
