History of reclamation

The first attempts at cleaning up refuse dumps and burrows were made spontaneously by miners from nearby.

For the purpose of restoring the landscape to its original state a programme of extensive sanitation and reclamation of areas in the Ostrava-Karviná district was worked out in 1954. In the framework of the programme, two reclamation centres were established with the then state-owned company OKR - Báňské stavby Ostrava at that time, which – in response to increasing requirements on reclamation and sanitation - later formed the basis for the independent state-owned company OKR - REKULTIVACE. By 1989 the company had succeeded in extinguishing most refuse dump conflagrations and restoring large areas of land to their original usage.

During the changes in organization following the Velvet Revolution the reclamation undertaking became an OKD branch and in 1991 changed its status to a joint-stock company with the majority interest held by OKD.
