History

The foundation was formed in 1994 at the initiative of the Club of Friends of the Mining Museum in Ostrava, the City district of Ostrava-Petřkovice and the Mining Museum in Ostrava. It was named after the archaeologically significant hill above the confluence of the Odra and Ostravice rivers, at whose area the Mining Museum is located.

Since 1998 the foundation has contributed with the amount of almost 7 million Czech crowns to more than 90 projects which, in addition to issuing publications, realization of exhibitions and artistic intentions and preservation of historic documents and exhibits, included also juvenile crime prevention or the programme of reclamation of the national natural monument Landek. Within the framework of this programme a suburban sports and recreational zone was formed at the site of the former surface operations of the mine.
