The Svatá Barbora (St. Barbara) civic association helps children who have one parent who has died of an occupational accident, mainly in mining. Currently the association has a hundred registered Czech, Polish and Slovak children and contributes to their studies, leisure activities and health care.
The association is based on the idea that children whose fathers have died should not be discriminated against financially. The situation of a family without a breadwinner is not easy. The association is mindful that insufficient funds not prevent orphaned children from studies, developing their talents, leisure activities, etc.

The association’s members are companies belonging to the OKD but also other companies as well as private individuals. The association is free and other legal as well as physical persons can become its members at any time.
Financial resources are obtained from member subscriptions as well as by means of gifts by various companies and individuals. Further funds are obtained in the course of various events organized by the association.

The Svatá Barbora civic association tries to gather financial resources also by organizing interesting events to which the wider public may contribute as well.
The association also organizes family meetings mothers and children can get to know each other better, give advice and share their experience. It is important to find new friends too.

The Board of Directors of OKD has adopted a Company code of ethics that is obligatory for all the employees of the firm. It defines basic values and attitudes to enterprise that OKD conforms to in the course of its business activities.
