Eventful Year for Children and Mothers from “Barborka“

3.2.2010

OSTRAVA – The children must not feel any crisis, and this principle applies even more to those from “Barborka” (i.e. St. Barbara Civil Association). Therefore, the St. Barbara Civil Association prepares, together with the Mother’s Committee, shared events and new contributions to particularly help the neediest people. Apart from the traditional supports for education, the St. Barbara Civil Association wants to help mothers with covering the increasing health care costs.

“Up to now, we have received applications for co-participation in payments for medical treatment rather exceptionally, and now such applications are more frequent. Therefore, we are preparing clear rules to provide our children with necessary health care and prevention,” Zdeněk Stronček from the Karviná Mine, who represents the trade union in the St. Barbara Civil Association, provided an explanation.

Contributions to Health Care

According to the Mother’s Committee, the parents with young girls would for example appreciate assistance in payments for vaccination against suppository uterine cancer. “The vaccination consists of three doses, and each of them costs CZK 3,500. And the health insurance company only covers one such dose,” explained Dan Toma, a student from “Barborka”, who has come up with this idea of support in this area in spite of the fact that the vaccination will not relate to him. At present, the St. Barbara Civil Association is considering paying for the second dose of vaccination, and the parents would pay for the third dose.

The new rules for health care will be built on the financial assistance system established last year. “Last year’s system has proven satisfactory. Now each mother knows exactly the amounts contributed by the St. Barbara Civil Association to cover the school fees, school aids or for example, ski training courses, and may take such amounts into account in planning the family budget,” added Marta Szamaránszká, a member of the Mother’s Committee.

Trips Throughout the Year

The Mother’s Committee has also preliminarily approved the Shared Event Plan, proposed by the mothers and older children for themselves for the first time. “We would like to make skiing and countryside trips with our children or let’s say, trips to the Dinopark. Both the mothers and their children would also deserve stays at the seaside, but we know that the economic situation is not easy. Therefore, we plan cheaper holidays in Hungarian spas,” added Szamaránszská. Even though the St. Barbara Civil Association is preparing probably a record number of events in its history, the budget to cover them will however be lower than the previous years’ budgets. Nevertheless thanks to the donation provided by the Bowling Tournament winners, a few families will still go to the seaside.
