Meeting of Czech and Polish Businessmen with NWR support

12.7.2010

OSTRAVA – Panels with logos of OKD and its parent company New World Resources lined the podium of the Meeting of Businessmen, which was held in the gardens of the Consulate General of the Republic of Poland in Ostrava at the end of June.

The 16th year of the traditional event was attended by approximately two hundred representatives of the business circles from the Czech Republic and Poland, as well as from border regions, towns and villages. Together with Jerzy Kronhold, General Consul of the Republic of Poland, the following officials appeared at the honorary podium: Martin Pecina, the resigning Minister of the Interior of the Czech Republic, Stanisław Borek, Deputy Ambassador of the Republic of Poland in the Czech Republic, Karel Kysilka, the First Secretary of the Economic Department of the Embassy of the Czech Republic in Warsaw, Jaroslav Palas, President of the Moravian-Silesian Region and others.

NWR, the mining company, was one of the main partners of the international Meeting of Businessmen, which aims at deepening and particularly, stabilizing the commercial cooperation and economic exchange between the Czech Republic and Poland. At the Meeting, NWR was represented by Klaus-Dieter Beck, Chairman of the Board of Directors and Chief Executive Officer of OKD, Ján Fabián, Chief Development and Strategy Officer, OKD, Jan Matula, Chief Engineering Officer, OKD, and others.

“I must say that we are really pleased about the return of the mining company after one-year break among the most significant partners of the Meeting of Businessmen,” Magdalena Holeksa, Director, Czech-Polish Chamber of Commerce in Ostrava, organizing the meeting, responded to the participation of the NWR representatives. “We also immensely appreciate the fact that the Meeting was personally attended by Klaus-Dieter Beck, Chief Executive Officer, OKD. OKD is one of the largest companies in our Region, and the Polish businessmen take great interest in cooperation with OKD. This may be documented by frequent questions about OKD, delivered to our Chamber,” emphasized Holeksa.

“OKD has a lot of contacts with Polish producers, and approximately 15 percent of the people working in OKD have Polish nationality. It is thus more than natural that after one year, OKD again becomes a partner of the most significant Czech-Polish meeting in the Moravian-Silesian Region. I consider similar events to be beneficial. Such events help businessmen find new foreign contacts and deepen the existing contacts. For us, it is a particular opportunity for informal meetings with our commercial partners and mutual experience exchange,” Klaus-Dieter Beck, Chief Executive Officer, OKD, evaluated the event.
